Pennsylvania State Fire Police Association
NFPA TRAFFIC CONTROL INCIDENT MANAGEMENT
PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS COMMITTEE
The Chair, Steve Austin referred to the August 20, 2010 NFPA Standards
Council letter creating the NFPA’s 1091 Traffic Control Incident Management
Professional Qualifications Committee.
He further clarified: The Committee Scope:
The Technical Committee (TC) shall have
jurisdiction over documents that address professional qualifications for
emergency responders in relation to their operations on roadways.
The Document Scope: The standard shall identify the minimum job
performance requirements necessary to perform temporary traffic control duties
at emergency incidents on, or near an active roadway.
The Chair acknowledged the diversity of the TC by way of fire service, fire
police, law enforcement, highway transportation, traffic safety, fire service
publications, Traffic Incident Management (TIM) related Consultant, and TIM
Subject Matter Experts which translates into a very balanced multidisciplinary
technical committee. Given the document scope, the TC acknowledged the
expectation that the ultimate standards document be applicable in all
disciplines to all TIM responders. It was agreed that “the documents would be
for the basic TIM responder”.
