Update to PTSI in PA

Update to PTSI in PA
Summary
A new provision of Pennsylvania's Act 121 of 2024 is now in effect, providing stronger protections and easier access to care for firefighters, police, EMTs, and paramedics diagnosed with Post-Traumatic Stress Injury (PTSI). The law amends the Workers' Compensation Act by removing the burdensome requirement that first responders prove "objective abnormal working conditions." This change permits PTSI diagnoses to arise from either a single traumatic event or cumulative exposure to severe stressors encountered during the line of duty. The Shapiro Administration championed this legislation to ensure first responders no longer have a barrier preventing them from seeking the vital mental health care they need.
